Appointment of the Worship Team

We are delighted to share that our new worship team has been appointed, with a representative from each year group, voted for by their peers.

The children will play an active role in planning, leading and evaluating collective worship in the school.

The team have also helped to lead recent Harvest and Christingle services at St Swithins church.

Worship Team Lunch Meeting with Mrs Tippett

Mrs Tippett and the Worship Team have a monthly working lunch to see how we can promote and embed our Christian faith in our school.

So far, our action plan is to write a lunchtime prayer that we can say before our daily lunch.

The Worship Team has come up with some super ideas and we are going to have a prayer ready for January 2023.

We have also decided to give the Outdoor Reflection Area some well-needed attention and have plans of what we want to do and buy to make it a more enjoyable space.

Church and Trustees tea with Mrs Tippett

It was wonderful to host a Tea with Mrs Tippett this term.

The trustees from the Bridget Biggs Trust and the Heron Trust were invited into school.

Collective Worship Led by The Worship Team

Courageous Advocacy - Warm Wednesdays

We teamed up with our local church, St Swithins, to be courageous advocates when we heard about their ‘Warm Wednesdays’ project to provide a warm space for anyone in our community who needed it each Wednesday afternoon.

Key Stage 2 children baked brownies and flapjacks and delivered these to the church in time for the community to enjoy.

They were also delivered by the church volunteers to the local community.

Courageous Advocacy - Elf Run

We also took part in the sponsored Elf Run to support Dove House Hospice and managed to raise over £600!

Harvest Festival

On Thursday 13th October, the whole school attended our Harvest Festival service at St Swithin's church. The service was designed alongside our Worship Team and included a reading from the Worship Team, some prayers read by our Year 6 children and some harvest artwork and poems by our Year 2 children.

We were also extremely grateful for the huge contributions made by our Sproatley community to our harvest collection. Thank you so much to all those that were able to donate this year.

Whole School Big RE Day

On Monday 5th December, the whole school came together as part of our ‘Big RE Day’ to embrace our four core Christian Values of Friendship, Compassion, Trust and Respect and our Bible underpinning of ‘We encourage, build and hope together…no-one left behind’ in all of our school life.

Within our weekly RE lessons, we look at Big Questions to generate discussions and the sharing of ideas. As part of the ‘Big RE Day’, the children came together in their mixed age, school house teams to tackle the Big Question ‘How are Festivals of Light celebrated in different religions?’ and to spend some time in their school communities.

In each classroom, there was a different focus:
* Advent
* Advent with a focus on Christingle
* Hanukkah
* Diwali

Each house team visited each classroom and were part of the classroom experience linked to the different festivals. At the end of the day, we all came together as a school to share and reflect on what we had learned.

Christingle Service

On the evening of Monday 5th December, we held our annual Christingle service at St Swithins' church.

The children made their own Christingles in school and lots of families were able to attend the event which was wonderful to see.

We had singing, some readings from some of the children and finally the lighting of the Christingles themselves.

Thank you to everyone who donated during the event also.

Church Club/Bible Group

We are pleased to announce that Mrs Hardman has kindly agreed to run her Church group again with volunteer children in Y5/6.

The club started during December and we hope it will continue to grow in popularity.

A warm thank-you to Mrs Hardman for giving up her time to support our Church School.
